چکیده

The role of tobacco tar in the development of lung adenomas was investigated in A mice of both sexes given a single intraperitoneal threshold or subthreshold dose of ethyl carbamate. Incidence of lung tumors indicated a highly significant increase in response to urethan from subthreshold to D50. When additional groups of mice were given urethan and the oral area was painted 5 times weekly for 6 months with a brush full of cigarette-tar solution, the adenoma incidence in groups of mice receiving nrc than plus tobacco condensate was greater for each urethan dose than for the corre sponding group receiving urethan alone. The difference in tumor incidence between the tar-added and urethan-alone groups is highly significant (P < 0.0001). All tumors were alveolar. Furthermore, the addition of tar produced significantly greater than additive effects in terms of incidence. The addition of tar produced effects as though the urethan dose had been increased by a factor of 5@.

Two-dimensional Simulation of Mass Transfer and Nano-Particle Deposition of Cigarette Smoke in a Human Airway

The chance of developing lung cancer is increased through being exposed to cigarette smoke illustrated by studies. It is vital to understand the development of particular histologic-type cancers regarding the deposition of carcinogenic particles, which are present in human airway. In this paper, the mass transfer and deposition of cigarette smoke, inside the human airway, are investigated apply...

Cigarette Smoke and Air Mixture

There is no doubt that the tar produced by condensing cigarette smoke is carcinogenic for mice (see Day, 1967). However, lung epithelium differs from the skin and the condensate differs from fresj cigarette smoke in, for example, the absence of the gaseous components. It appeared worth while to us, therefore, to attempt to produce lung carcinomas in mice by allowing them to breathe a mixture of...

Analysis of tobacco and smoke condensate for penicillic acid.

Gas chromatographic analyses of smoke condensate from commercial, unfiltered cigarettes spiked with penicillic acid (500 or 1,000 ppm), a reported carcinogenic substance from certain fungi, indicated approximately 3% of unchanged compound was transported in the smoke. Analysis of tobacco on which either Aspergillus ochraceus or Penicillium cyclopium was grown revealed microgram quantities of th...

An analysis of the role of tobacco-specific nitrosamines in the carcinogenicity of tobacco smoke.

Cigarette smoke is a complex mixture consisting of more than 4500 chemicals, including several tobacco-specific nitrosamines (TSNA). TSNA typically form in tobacco during the post-harvest period, with some fraction being transferred into mainstream smoke when a cigarette is burned during use. The most studied of the TSNA is 4-(methylnitrosamino)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-butanone (NNK). NNK has been show...
